MELISSA'S DIARY
"Her Story Must Be Told"
In the perilous waters off the coast of Maine, it's the late 1800’s, Melissa Colby Holden, a woman of Native American Heritage, embarks on a daring journey to safeguard her family, her life and champion women's rights. She ultimately altered the course of history for countless mariners facing the deadliest of tides. Based on the True Story, we follow the life of Melissa, the only permanent female lighthouse keeper in the history of Maine. A “Life Diary” full of love, death, tragedies, innovations, success, untold perils, and murder. All this in a male dominated administration, determined to erase her legacy and the rights of every woman.
"But They Could Not!"
It is now time to tell her story! The many successes, dedication to family, passion for Deer Isle Thoroughfare, Mark Isle Lighthouse, “The Light”, and in her later years the fortitude and strength to petition for children’s and women’s rights.
This story is based on Melissa’s life and is Powerful, Simpatico, and Heroic. We explore every aspect of her life story. Her nine children, the deaths of her three husbands, the country store, her successful shipping company and her travels as she petitioned for the Suffrage Movement . This includes illustrations from her Diary as well as period pieces, photos, drawings, and paintings portraying what it was like along Maine's coastal waters during the turn of the 19th century.
